Cuajiniquil beach is a beautiful gray sanded beach and calm blue waters of less than 2km in length, completely surrounded by the Cuajiniquil river mangrove and a lush coastal and tropical dry forest vegetation, located in the province of Guanacaste.

Cuajiniquil beach has very gentle tides and abundant marine life, making it ideal to practice some water sports like diving, snorkeling and fishing. In fact, Cuajiniquil beach is the place where local fishermen found a safe spot for their ships, as it is sheltered from the winds.

Getting to Cuajiniquil Beach in Guanacaste:

From San José

Drive north to Puntarenas and then follow the Pan-American highway towards Liberia. Once in Liberia, continue along the same highway for about 40km (25 miles), turn left towards Cuajiniquil, and continue for 15 km (9 miles) until you get to Cuajiniquil Beach. This route requires a total of 6 to 7 hours from San José.

From Daniel Oduber International Airport (LIR)

Drive northeast towards Liberia. Once in Liberia, continue along the same highway for about 40km (25 miles), turn left towards Cuajiniquil, and continue for 15 km (9 miles) until you get to Cuajiniquil Beach.

Buena beach is a beautiful little beach, less than 1km long with white sands and calm waters, located in the province of Guanacaste. It’s surrounded by mountains and rock formations, which, in contrast with its lush vegetation of tropical dry forest, gives a great scenic beauty.

Buena beach is ideal for a vacation of relaxation, peace and tranquility, as it is rarely visited despite its proximity to beaches such as Coco and Panama, making it perfect for sunbathing and cooling off in its calm waters, while relaxing with the sound of gentle sea waves.

Getting to Buena Beach in Guanacaste:

From San José

Drive north to Puntarenas and then follow the Pan-American highway until you reach Liberia. There, turn right, continue for 8 km (5 miles) and turn right at the DO IT Center to Papagayo or Panama beach. Once in Panama beach, turn right, continue on the road to Hermosa beach for about 2.5 km (1.5 miles), then turn right and continue for 1 km (0.6 miles) until you reach the Occidental Grand Papagayo Hotel. To get to Buena beach, you must walk down a small cobblestone street adjacent to the hotel. This route requires a total of 5 to 6 hours from San José.

From Daniel Oduber International Airport (LIR)

Drive south to Santa Cruz for 8 km (5 miles) and turn right at the DO IT Center to Papagayo or Panama beach. Once in Panama beach, turn right, continue on the road to Hermosa beach for about 2.5 km (1.5 miles), then turn right and continue for 1 km (0.6 miles) until you reach the Occidental Grand Papagayo Hotel. To get to Buena beach, you must walk down a small cobblestone street adjacent to the hotel.

By bus

Take a bus from the route San José – Hermosa beach / Panama beach, which takes about 6 hours (Traslapa, +506 2221-7202, +506 2680-0392); or you can also take a bus from the route Liberia – Hermosa beach / Panama beach, which takes about 1 hour (Transportes La Pampa, +506 2665-5891). From Hermosa beach you can take a taxi to Buena beach, which takes about 5 minutes. We recommend buying the ticket the day before to ensure your space.

By plane

You can also take a flight from the Juan Santamaria Airport to the Daniel Oduber airport at Liberia, either with Sansa or Aerobell Airlines every day. From here you can rent a car and drive or take a taxi to Buena beach, which takes about 20 minutes.
