Cocos beach offers a beautiful natural setting almost intact, both terrestrial and marine, with a wide variety of flora and fauna, making diving, snorkeling, sunbathing and walking along its coast some of the most desirable activities. Cocos Beach presents no tourism development, making it ideal for tourists seeking a vacation to enjoy the peace and tranquility in harmony with nature.
Getting to Cocos Beach in La Cruz, Guanacaste:
From San José
Drive north to Puntarenas and then follow the Pan-American highway towards Liberia. Once in Liberia, continue along the same highway for about 55 km (34 miles), turn left towards El Jobo, continue for 11 km (7 miles) turn right towards El Jobo, Coyotera and Cocos beaches and continue for 4 km (2.5 miles) until you get to Cocos Beach. This route requires a total of 5 to 6 hours from San José. During the winter months is necessary 4×4 vehicle to get to Cocos Beach.
From Daniel Oduber International Airport (LIR)
Drive northeast towards Liberia. Once in Liberia, continue along the same highway for about 55 km (34 miles), turn left towards El Jobo, continue for 11 km (7 miles) turn right towards El Jobo, Coyotera and Cocos beaches and continue for 4 km (2.5 miles) until you get to Cocos Beach. During the winter months is necessary 4×4 vehicle to get to Cocos Beach.
By bus
There are no buses that reach Cocos Beach, however you can take a bus from the route San José – La Cruz, which takes about 6 hours (Transportes Deldú, +506 2256-9072) and then take another bus from the route La Cruz – Puerto Soley – El Jobo, which takes about 30 minutes, departing 3 times a day. From here you can rent a car and drive or take a taxi to Cocos beach, which takes about 30 minutes.
Also, you can take a bus from the route San José – Liberia, which takes about 5 hours (Pulmitan, +506 2222-1650), take another bus from the route Liberia – La Cruz (Empresa Arrieta, +506 2665-7530) which takes about 1 hour, and then take another bus from the route La Cruz – Puerto Soley – El Jobo, which takes about 30 minutes, departing 3 times a day. From here you can rent a car and drive or take a taxi to Cocos beach, which takes about 30 minutes. In both cases, we recommend buying the ticket the day before to save your space.
By plane:
You can also take a flight from the Juan Santamaria Airport to the Daniel Oduber airport at Liberia, either with Sansa or Aerobell Airlines every day. From here you can rent a car and drive or take a taxi to Cocos beach, which takes about 1 hour.
