Cuajiniquil beach is a beautiful gray sanded beach and calm blue waters of less than 2km in length, completely surrounded by the Cuajiniquil river mangrove and a lush coastal and tropical dry forest vegetation, located in the province of Guanacaste.
Cuajiniquil beach has very gentle tides and abundant marine life, making it ideal to practice some water sports like diving, snorkeling and fishing. In fact, Cuajiniquil beach is the place where local fishermen found a safe spot for their ships, as it is sheltered from the winds.
Getting to Cuajiniquil Beach in Guanacaste:
From San José
Drive north to Puntarenas and then follow the Pan-American highway towards Liberia. Once in Liberia, continue along the same highway for about 40km (25 miles), turn left towards Cuajiniquil, and continue for 15 km (9 miles) until you get to Cuajiniquil Beach. This route requires a total of 6 to 7 hours from San José.
From Daniel Oduber International Airport (LIR)
Drive northeast towards Liberia. Once in Liberia, continue along the same highway for about 40km (25 miles), turn left towards Cuajiniquil, and continue for 15 km (9 miles) until you get to Cuajiniquil Beach.
Cuajiniquil Beach Costa Rica by bus
You can take a bus from the route San José – Liberia, which takes about 5 hours (Pulmitan, +506 2222-1650) and then take another bus from the route Liberia – Cuajiniquil (at González García bus terminal) which takes about 1 hour. We recommend buying the ticket the day before to save your space.
By plane:
You can also take a flight from the Juan Santamaria Airport to the Daniel Oduber airport at Liberia, either with Sansa or Aerobell Airlines every day. From here you can rent a car and drive or take a taxi to Cuajiniquil beach, which takes about 1 hour.
