Getting to Panama Beach in Guanacaste:
From San José
Drive north to Puntarenas and then follow the Pan-American highway until you reach Liberia. There, turn right, continue for 8 km (5 miles), turn right at the DO IT Center to Papagayo or Panama beach and continue for 9 km (5.5 miles) more, until you reach the entrance to Panama Beach. This route requires a total of 5 to 6 hours from San José.
From Daniel Oduber International Airport (LIR)
Drive south to Santa Cruz for 8 km (5 miles), turn right at the DO IT Center to Papagayo or Panama beach and continue for 9 km (5.5 miles) more, until you reach the entrance to Panama Beach.
By bus
Take a bus from the route San José – Hermosa beach / Panama beach, which takes about 6 hours (Tralapa, +506 2221-7202, +506 2680-0392); or you can also take a bus from the route Liberia – Hermosa beach / Panama beach, which takes about 1 hour (Transportes La Pampa, +506 2665-5891). We recommend buying the ticket the day before to ensure your space.
By plane
You can also take a flight from the Juan Santamaria Airport to the Daniel Oduber airport at Liberia, either with Sansa or Aerobell Airlines every day. From here you can rent a car and drive or take a taxi to Panama beach, which takes about 15 minutes.

Panama Beach is one of the most attractive beaches in the Guanacaste province, located in Culebra Bay in the Gulf of Papagayo, five minutes from Hermosa and Coco beaches. It’s one of the best places to swim in Costa Rica, because the beach has no stones, the currents are not strong and the tide often remains low.

Importantly, Panama Beach has the Blue Flag certificate (Bandera Azul in Spanish), so it has good health and safety conditions.
By its close proximity to Liberia and the Daniel Oduber International Airport, Panama beach is accessible all year through a new road, making it easier for foreigners to travel to other places. Many national parks are in the vicinity of Panama Beach, including the famous Rincon de la Vieja National Park, Palo Verde National Park and Santa Rosa National Park to name a few. Panama Beach has a variety of condominiums, resorts and accommodations for all budgets, as well as numerous restaurants, bars and shopping areas.
